Privacy Policy

This page is maintained by Sonar to answer common privacy and data-use questions about the Sonar website and song analysis service. It is app-owned content and may be updated as the service evolves.

Overview

This page is maintained by Sonar to answer common privacy and data-use questions about the Sonar website and song analysis service.

We built Sonar to give independent artists and producers fast, honest feedback on their tracks. We try to collect as little personal information as possible, and we do not sell your data. This policy describes what we collect, why we collect it, and the limited ways we share it.

Information we collect

  • Uploaded audio. When you analyze a song, the audio file is sent to our servers for processing. It is analyzed in memory and discarded afterward — we do not store the original recording.
  • Analysis reports. The scores and recommendations we generate are saved in your browser's localStorage so you can revisit your report history on that device. They are not uploaded to our servers unless you later create an account and explicitly enable cloud sync.
  • Usage data. We collect basic analytics such as page views, feature usage, and error logs to improve the service. This is typically anonymous or pseudonymous.
  • Contact information. If you email us or join a waitlist, we collect the address you provide so we can respond.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and related technologies for a few purposes:

  • Essential. Needed for the site to function, such as remembering your session or report history preferences.
  • Analytics. Helps us understand which features are used and where the experience can improve.
  • Advertising. Allows advertising partners to show relevant ads and measure their performance.

You can manage or disable cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may limit certain features.

Google AdSense and advertising

Sonar participates in the Google AdSense program to display ads. Google and its partners may use cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites.

These technologies may allow Google to recognize your device and show ads that are more relevant to you. Google may also use advertising identifiers or mobile identifiers where applicable.

You can learn more and opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or Your Online Choices. For more details on how Google handles data, see Google's Privacy Policy.

How we use your information

  • To generate song analysis reports and display them to you.
  • To maintain your local report history and preferences.
  • To improve the accuracy, speed, and reliability of the service.
  • To respond to support requests and communicate product updates.
  • To show relevant advertising through trusted partners.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We only share data with a small number of service providers and partners who help us operate the site, such as hosting, analytics, and advertising platforms. These providers are contractually required to handle data securely and only use it for the services they provide to us.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights, or in connection with a business transfer.

Data retention and security

Uploaded audio files are not retained after analysis. Local report history remains on your device until you clear your browser data or delete individual reports.

We use industry-standard security measures to protect data in transit and at rest. No online service can guarantee complete security, so we encourage you to use strong passwords and keep your devices up to date.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal information. You can also object to certain uses, such as personalized advertising, through the opt-out links above.

To exercise any of these rights, or to ask what data we hold about you, contact us at the email below.

Children's privacy

Sonar is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
